Half a Million Honeybees Perish in Netherlands Fire Incident.

A beekeeper from the Netherlands has voiced dismay after his 10 beehives were burned down in a public garden in the central city of Almere, resulting in the loss of an approximated half a million bees.

The beekeeper stated that every colony housed a colony of forty to sixty thousand bees, and the idea that someone could destroy them was devastating.

"It really hurts that my ten colonies have died," he informed regional media.

Police in Almere, located to the northeast of Amsterdam, have requested witnesses after the arson attack on Tuesday evening in the city's scenic Beatrixpark. They shared pictures of the fire on online platforms.

The Netherlands authorities says that over 50% of the nation's 360 species of bee are at threat of dying out, as the population of bees decreases globally.

The beekeeper explained that police had informed him an accelerant had been employed to burn the colonies, which were sitting on pallets in a wooded part of the garden.

Barely any of the bees survived and he said that he had little faith the arsonist would be apprehended.

Another apiarist a local beekeeper stated on Dutch radio that she had three hives and planned to give him one of them.

For Mr Stringer, who looked after the bees for about almost a decade, the incident means building a new colony in the park from scratch.

But he insists he will continue his efforts.
