Environmental Specialists Applaud Prince William's Attendance

Sustainability leaders praised the royal's presence. One consultant commented that it would boost what is anticipated to be a complex meeting, where global consensus on fresh goals for cutting climate pollutants is required.

"Is the Prince's attendance at the summit a stunt? Yes. But it doesn't imply it's a poor decision," the expert commented. "Cop has long been as much about what's termed 'optics' as it is about negotiations. The Prince's commitment will almost certainly motivate other delegates to participate, and will capture international press."

"I suspect HRH knows very well that by participating, he'll attract countless of attention to the conference. In an era when climate impacts are increasing, but media coverage is falling, anything that highlights the issue should be welcomed."

Royal Presence at Past Climate Summits

King Charles has participated in previous Cops, but has decided not to participate in this one.

Support from Climate Thinktanks

An expert from a climate research unit said: "Full participation is needed – and any prominent individual like the Prince of Wales, there helping make the case for the complex task that must be done, is almost certainly a positive development."

"The monarch] was the Prince of Wales when he went to the Glasgow summit and contributed to energize discussions. I would argue it always requires the prince and the king to attend."

PM's Decision Still Uncertain

The UK's leader has yet to announce whether he plans to join the summit, to which every global leaders are expected, with numerous set to attend. He was heavily criticised by prominent environmental voices for seeming hesitant on the choice recently.

"International representatives must be in the summit location for Cop30. Participation is not merely symbolic, it is a demonstration of responsibility. This is the time to establish enhanced national commitments and the finance to deliver them, especially for preparedness" to the effects of the climate crisis.
"The world is watching, and posterity will note who participated."
